Artist: 20th Century American School
Title: Abstract Sailing Forms
Date: Circa 1970s
Medium: Mixed media on canvas
Signature/inscription: unsigned
Canvas dimensions (each): 75 × 75 cm
Framed dimensions (each): 78 × 78 cm
A striking pair of large American abstract paintings dating from around the 1970s. Their sweeping curves, intersecting lines and loosely delineated shapes evoke sails, rigging, wind and movement across water.
One composition combines blue-green, grey and red, while the other employs warmer ochre, olive and terracotta tones. Both are executed with layered fields of colour, energetic drawn outlines and freely applied drips and marks. The two works are visually complementary and are offered together as a pair.
The canvases are mounted on American Grumbacher “Stretch ’N’ Frame” stretchers and presented in narrow wooden frames.
Condition:
Both paintings appear to be in generally good condition, with surface marks, drips and irregularities consistent with the artist’s materials and working method. There is some age-related wear to the frames. Please examine all photographs, which form part of the description. Further photographs and condition information are available on request.
