An original mixed-media work entitled Zero Prism by celebrated German-American Pop artist Peter Max. The composition depicts two stylised figures in Max’s immediately recognisable psychedelic palette, extensively embellished by hand with energetic acrylic brushwork.
The printed studio statement verso identifies the work as a variation in its colour combination and brushstrokes, based upon Max’s original artwork of the same title on paper. It is therefore an individually hand-painted variation rather than a conventional unembellished print.
The work has been framed to a high standard in a substantial gilt frame with a broad cream mount and acrylic glazing.
Provenance and documentation:
Peter Max studio statement and copyright stamp verso with inventory label (verso) identifying the artist and title: “MAX Zero Prism”
Purchased from an auction house in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England.
An edition with the same dimensions and identical framing is currently being offered by Ro Gallery (New York) for £6,400 (see https://www.1stdibs.com/art/prints-works-on-paper/portrait-prints-works-on-paper/peter-max-zero-prism-pop-art-mixed-media-painting-peter-max/id-a_17518862/.)
Condition:
The artwork appears to be in generally good condition with a light scuff to the acrylic glazing. The sheet displays some gentle undulation, consistent with a work on paper. Please examine all photographs, which form part of the description.
